Municipal Drainage

The Town of Kingsville is responsible for overseeing the maintenance, repair, and improvement of municipal drains on behalf of and for the benefit of its users.
The costs to repair or improve municipal drains are assessed out to the affected landowners who benefit from the Drains proportionally.
See what municipal drains are in your area by using the Town’s interactive mapping service.

The Ontario Drainage Act, R.S.O. 1990, is the provincial legislation that defines the process for resolving drainage issues, administered by the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Agribusiness (OMAFA). The Act provides regulation in obtaining a legal outlet for landowners with drainage problems to create, repair, maintain, or improve lands to be drained.

To request maintenance of a municipal drain, please complete the form to advise the Drainage Superintendent.

Invasive Phragmites or European Common Reed (Phragmites australis subsp. australis) is an invasive species with no natural competitors that can harm our native plants and species. Phragmites reach heights of up to five meters (15 feet) and can grow so densely that they cause blockages and flooding in municipal drains.
With proper timing, concentration, and application methods, Phragmites can be effectively, efficiently, and environmentally responsibly controlled with herbicides.
