Backflow Prevention
Backflow - Cross Connection Control Program
Purpose of the Program
To ensure the delivery of safe, clean drinking water to residents and businesses within the municipality, the Town of Kingsville has instituted strict criteria under which property owners are allowed to connect to the Town's water supply.
Backflow Prevention
Safe, clean drinking water is delivered through a network of water mains. To protect the public, the Backflow Prevention By-law takes a proactive approach to preventing contamination from entering the system.
Protecting drinking water quality is a top priority, and installing backflow prevention devices can prevent contamination of the Town's drinking water system.
Backflow is the undesired reversal of water flow against normal direction. Backflow occurs due to back pressure or back siphonage.
Back pressure occurs when the pressure in a private water system is greater than the pressure in the Town's water supply system.
Back siphonage occurs when the pressure in the water supply system is lower than the pressure in a private system. This can result in the reversal of flow between the public and private systems.
Backflow Prevention Devices and Annual Testing
There are several different types of devices to address varying types of hazards. Most devices must be tested annually to ensure that they are operating properly. The By-law requires that only Authorized Certified Contractors may test and install backflow prevention devices. Here is a list of local certified contractors. The Certified Contractor will complete the Backflow Prevention Report Form annually and submit it to the Town. Please email backflow@kingsville.ca if you require a copy of the form. How can we help?
