Tree Management
The Town of Kingsville has a Tree Management Policy that provides guidelines for the protection, removal, and planting of trees within the municipal right-of-way or Town property. The Town will NOT consider removing a tree for any of the following reasons:
- To enhance or maintain view corridors
- To resolve an issue with the shade on neighbouring properties
- To stop naturally occurring processes such as protruding roots or deposits of leaves, flowers or seeds
- To stop driveway or sidewalk upheaval, or
- If the removal is in contravention of Federal or Provincial legislation.
There are times, however, when a tree needs to come down. For example:
- An Arborist has determined it to be hazardous
- Removal is a necessary part of an approved development or a capital project
- Natural causes damaged the tree so badly that it could fall on a person or property
- The tree is encroaching on a road and blocking sightlines, which could be dangerous for motorists and pedestrians
Tree Removal Communication Process
If a landmark tree that will significantly alter the streetscape or natural features of the neighbourhood is scheduled for removal, Administration will advise Council members of the reasoning and mark the tree with an “X” to give residents advanced warning. If you see an X on a tree and wonder why it’s being removed, feel free to ask. You can contact a member of Council or email your inquiry to requests@kingsville.ca.
Request a Tree
The Town of Kingsville is committed to planting two trees for every one tree removed from Town property. We offer residents two planting options.
- Street Tree Planting
- Commemorative Tree Program
