  • Be courteous and respectful of all other users
  • Safety first! We strongly recommend all skaters wear a CSA-approved helmet while on the ice
  • Children aged 10 and under must be supervised by a parent or guardian
  • Unsafe skating is prohibited. This includes but is not limited to erratic or excessive speed skating, racing, tag, horseplay, figure skating maneuvers, and ice dancing
  • Skaters must all follow in the direction of other skaters
  • Ice skates must always be worn while on the ice surface. Shoes are strictly prohibited
  • Food and drink are prohibited on the ice and bench
  • Baby strollers, pylons, chairs or any other item deemed unsafe are not permitted. Skate aids provided by the Town are available
  • Wheelchairs/Accessible Equipment are permitted during skates, with the accompaniment of a responsible adult aged 18 or older with skates or clean shoes. Accessible equipment should be clean and free of debris/sand/salt before entering the ice surface
  • While the ice resurfacer is on the ice, skaters must remain off the ice and the bench. Do not enter the bench until the ice resurfacing doors have closed
  • No hockey sticks or pucks (except during shinny)
  • Please respect and follow instructions from Arena staff
  • Report all accidents and/or injuries to Arena Staff immediately
  • There are limited skate assists, so please do not use one unless needed

Skaters and spectators are deemed to have knowledge of and assume the inherent risks, including, but not limited to:

  • Injuries from falls, collisions, or contact with other individuals on the ice surface
  • Failure to comply with these rules may result in your removal from the ice

We appreciate your cooperation in maintaining a safe and enjoyable environment for everyone.

Shinny is an informal game of hockey played on ice. There is usually minimal equipment needed to play, and no goaltender. To ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone, please adhere to the following shinny rules:

  • Play is self-supervised.  All participants must be fair to one another and allow everyone equal playing time
  • No contact. This includes the following violations:
    • No dangerous play, such as body-checking, slashing, tripping, diving, flopping, or careless use of the hockey stick.
    • No fighting
    • No abusive and/or obscene language or behaviour
  • No slap shots
  • Keep puck below shin
  • Only one puck on the ice during play
  • Full equipment is not required, but you will need to bring:
    • A CSA-approved hockey helmet
    • A full face guard (if under 18 years old)
    • Your own skates, sticks and pucks

Hockey gloves and a neck guard is highly recommended for all participants
