Public Notice of Pesticide Use for Cosmetic Weed Control Program

The Town of Kingsville advises residents that cosmetic weed control operations will take place at the Kingsville Recreation Complex, Ridgeview Park, Lakeside Park, Cedar Island Marina and Boat Ramp, the Kingsville OPP Detachment, and the Kingsville South Fire Hall from July 5 to September 1, 2026, weather permitting. 

Applications will be carried out by qualified personnel on an as-needed basis to manage weeds in municipal parks, sports fields, boulevards, landscaped areas, and other municipally owned properties, where appropriate. 

The purpose of this program is to: 

  • Maintain safe and attractive public spaces
  • Improve the health and appearance of municipal landscapes
  • Help manage invasive and nuisance weeds, and
  • Support the long-term health of municipal turf and landscaped areas 

In the event that Noxious Weeds are discovered, treatment areas will be clearly identified with signage at the time of application. Residents are asked to respect all posted signs and avoid treated areas until any restrictions indicated on the signage have expired. This pesticide use falls under the exception to the cosmetic pesticide ban mentioned in subsection 7.1 (2) of the Pesticides Act for uses related to the promotion of public health and safety. 

The following registered pesticides will be used under the Ontario Pesticides Act Regulation 63/09: 

  • Fiesta Herbicide (Registration No. 30560), containing the active ingredient Iron (present as FeHEDTA)
  • Munger Horticultural Vinegar Herbicide (Registration No. 29405), containing the active ingredient Acetic Acid
  • BioSafe Systems LLC AXXE Broad Spectrum Herbicide (Registration No. 32719), active ingredient Ammonium salt of fatty acids (36 percent)
