A piece of Kingsville history has come home.  

The Ellis family proudly presented a historic clock from the old Kingsville Post Office to the Town on September 22, 2026. 

Dave Ellis and Linda Lee McEachern, siblings who moved to Kingsville in 1949 and have fond memories of growing up in the community, visited Town Hall to return the clock. During their visit, they shared stories of early life in Kingsville and how the clock came to be in their family's possession. 

In the late 1960s, their father, William John Ellis, learned that the federal government had sold the former Kingsville Post Office, and that the building would be demolished. While visiting the demolition site, he spotted the clock among the debris. When he learned it was destined for the landfill, he asked the site supervisor if he could purchase it. For just $4.00, he saved the clock with the intention of restoring it and returning it to the Town. 

After researching restoration options, William discovered that the clock's handmade mechanisms would make the project costly. Instead, the clock was brought to the Ellis family home, where it became a cherished centrepiece in their living room.  

The clock remained in the Ellis family home in Kingsville until the house was sold in 1997. It was then moved to Dave's home in the Durham Region, where it remained for nearly three decades. 

It was always their father's wish that the clock be returned to the Town, and Dave and Linda were committed to carrying out that wish. 

"We're proud to say it's our little contribution to Kingsville," shared the family. "Dad always wanted it here. It was his wish that it would come back to Kingsville." 

Thank you to the Ellis family for preserving this important piece of Kingsville's heritage and ensuring future generations can continue to appreciate its story. 

The clock will be safely stored until the next term of Council determines an appropriate location to display this unique piece of local history.
