Council Brief from the June 8, 2026 Meeting
At its June 8, 2026 meeting, Council:

Approved the closure of Jasperson Lane (old Jasperson) to traffic on July 1, 2026, from 12:00 pm to 9:30 pm for Canada Day events, and for September 30, 2026, from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm for a National Day of Truth and Reconciliation event

Approved funding 45% of the Essex County OPP Detachment Board – South budget for 2025 and 2026, and future funding percentages will be submitted to Council for consideration and approval

Adopted By-law 38-2026 to authorize cost recovery for Fire Department-specific response attendance

Approved the purchase of one 2027 Elgin Street Sweeper at the cost of $569,000 plus HST

Approved and directed Administration to submit an application under the Development Charge Reduction Program for residential growth-related investment in sanitary systems, including the expansion of Kingsville’s wastewater treatment plant and sewage transmission systems in Ruthven and Kingsville. And further agreed to reduce Development Charges by 50% for a period of three years, effective from March 30, 2026, as a condition of the funding application, to take effect if and when a funding agreement is entered into with the Province of Ontario.
