Council Brief from the April 13, 2026 Meeting
At its April 13, 2026 meeting, Council:
- Directed Administration to extend Interim Control By‑law 24‑2025, as amended by By‑law 46‑2025, for one additional year under Section 38(2) of the Planning Act. This extension will allow the Town to complete its review of land use planning policies and related regulations required to address sanitary sewer capacity constraints for lands served by the Ruthven Sanitary System.
- Awarded the 2026 Rural Road Resurfacing Tender to Shepley Road Maintenance Ltd. in the amount of $1,257,934.07 (excluding HST)
- Awarded the 2026 Urban Road Resurfacing Tender to GIP Paving Inc. in the amount of $664,400 (excluding HST)
- Authorized Administration to enter into an agreement with Fire Marque Inc. to recover costs from insurance companies for fire responses, and to establish fire service rates based on provincially recognized Ministry of Transportation (MTO) equipment rates
- Passed a resolution in support for Finlay’s Law, calling on the Provincial Government to improve pediatric emergency care by:
- Setting maximum wait times for patients under 18 (a doctor visit within 2 hours and hospital admission within 8 hours);
- Ensuring safe nurse‑to‑patient and doctor‑to‑patient staffing levels in emergency departments;
- Creating an independent body to monitor hospital emergency departments, investigate pediatric deaths in ER waiting areas, and enforce compliance;
- Mandating timely, independent public reviews of every pediatric death that occurs in an ER waiting area or while awaiting assessment; and
- Providing dedicated provincial funding to improve pediatric emergency readiness, including staffing, training and pediatric equipment.
