Check Your Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Alarms for Red Protective Covers
Kingsville Fire is reminding residents, particularly those living in new or recently renovated homes, to check their smoke and carbon monoxide alarms for red protective bands or dust covers.
These covers are meant to protect alarms during construction from drywall dust, paint fumes and other debris. But if they are not removed after construction, they can block the alarm's vents and sensor chambers, preventing smoke or carbon monoxide from reaching the detector.
Kingsville Fire has recently visited homes where these protective covers were still in place.
Residents are encouraged to check their alarms for these protective covers, remove them and test their alarms to make sure they're ready when you need them.
Only working smoke and carbon monoxide alarms save lives.
