All About ADUs - Town Holds Information Session about Additional Dwelling Units
The Town of Kingsville invites residents to attend All About ADUs – Laying the Groundwork for Your Backyard Build, an information session on Additional Dwelling Units, at the Grovedale Arts and Culture Centre on Thursday, May 28, 2026 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
This session will provide a comprehensive overview of ADUs—from planning and permitting to real-life experiences building and owning one.
“The goal is to help anyone who is curious or seriously considering adding an additional dwelling unit to their property, to better understand their options and what they might come across in the process,” said Richard Wyma, Kingsville’s Director of Planning and Development Services.
What You’ll Learn
What is an ADU?
Planning staff will explain what ADUs are, where they are permitted, and the rules that apply at both the provincial and municipal levels. Topics will include zoning requirements, size and setback regulations, and important considerations such as parking and servicing.
Building an ADU
Kingsville’s Chief Building Official (CBO) will outline key building requirements, including Ontario Building Code considerations, permits, inspections, and timelines. Information will also be provided about secondary suites, detached units, and prefabricated or “tiny home” designs.
Real Experiences
Hear directly from a local builder and a Kingsville homeowner who have constructed ADUs. Gain insights from their experience.
What’s Next?
Planning staff will also discuss how ADUs support attainable housing and how Kingsville might support these types of builds in the future.
This session is a great opportunity to understand how ADUs can work for you and your property. No registration required.
