Town Prepares for First Open Streets of the Summer Saturday, June 19, 2021

Posted On Wednesday June 16, 2021

This Saturday, June 19, 2021, marks the first Saturday of the summer that Kingsville will close a section of Main and Division to open streets to pedestrians to support businesses during the COVID-19 pandemic. There will also be an Outdoor Night Market. Open Streets is every Saturday from 4:00 pm-10:30 pm until September 11, 2021. Road closures will begin an hour before to allow vendors time to set up.

"The restrictions that have kept us safe have also had an unfortunate impact on our entrepreneurs across all sectors," said Kingsville Mayor Nelson Santos. "Open Streets provides an opportunity for guests to experience Kingsville's treasures in a safe environment."

The Town is also accepting applications for Outdoor Night Market food vendors. Participation is free, but all businesses and non-profit groups must be Kingsville-based, including Ruthven and Cottam. Non-food vendors will be accepted once the Provinces' Roadmap to Reopen permits them. The Vendor Application Form is available on the Town's website at www.kingsville.ca/openstreets.

Kingsville's Public Works and Parks and Recreation staff will handle most of the work required to launch Open Streets, but volunteers are needed to ensure the roads remain safely closed each week. Those interested in helping can fill out the Volunteer Application form at www.kingsville.ca/openstreets to become a Kingsville Volunteer Ambassador.

"Our businesses are looking forward to welcoming guests back, and our community is eager to reconnect with their small business friends," said Mayor Santos. "Certainly physical distancing, handwashing and mask-wearing measures remain the priority, but we're pleased to provide a safe environment for everyone to enjoy what our Town has to offer."
