Fire Code Requirements |
The Fire Code is a regulation made under the Fire Protection and Prevention Act, 1997. Division A, 1.2.1.1 states, "Unless otherwise specified, the owner is responsible for carrying out the provisions of this Code". The Fire Code can be accessed (free of charge) on e-Laws website. Open Air Burning / Permits |
NOTICE - The Town of Kingsville has declared a State of Emergency as of March 22nd, taking proactive and precautionary measures in order to prepare the region for the COVID-19 pandemic. At this time, the Kingsville Fire Department has resumed issuing permits however; due to current volume levels there may be a delay in inspection. For the safety of our staff and residents, we ask that you please refrain from contacting any fire department personnel while they are on their site visit. Residential Backyard Burning - Permit Required Campfire Shall mean a Fire, having a maximum fuel volume of 1 metre x 1 metre x 1 metre height. (3 feet x 3 feet x 3 feet), that is set and maintained solely for the purposes of cooking food, providing warmth or recreational enjoyment and where; i) The site of the fire is on non-combustible material, ii) The fire is at least 3 metres (9.9 feet) from any flammable material, iii) The space above the fire is at least 3 metres (9.9 feet) from vegetation, iv) The fire is at least 4.75 metres (15 feet) from the property line, v) The fire is at least 4.75 metres (15 feet) from a structure, and, vi) The flame length does not exceed 1 metre (3.3 feet) in height and 1 metre (3.3 feet) in diameter. When a fire meets the requirements for residential backyard burning as stated above, a person may complete an application for open air burning using the Residential Open Air Burning Application Form or complete in person at the South Station (1720 Division Road North) during regular business hours. A site visit will be required during the review process of the application. The applicant will be notified if the application has been approved or not. Approved applications will be issued a burn permit that is required to be on site of the burn location and made readily available to fire and police officials on request.
Agricultural / Contractor Burning - Permit Required Shall mean an Open Air Fire, having been approved, that is set and maintained for the sole purpose of burning cut piled wood or brush, the disposal of certain paper based refuse or non- toxic building materials. When a fire meets the requirements for an agricultural/contractor fire as stated above, a person may complete an application for open air burning using the Agricultural / Contractor Open Air Burning Application Form or complete in person at the South Station (1720 Division Road North) during regular business hours. A site visit will be required during the review process of the application. The applicant will be notified if the application has been approved or not. Approved applications will be issued a burn permit that is required to be on site of the burn location and made readily available to fire and police officials on request.

Home Fire Escape Plans |
You may only have a matter of minutes to escape a fire once the smoke alarm sounds. Everyone needs to know what to do and how to get out of their home quickly during a fire emergency. Developing a home fire escape plan will help to ensure that all occupants know how to get out of their home. Remember to practice your plan at least twice a year. |

Temporary Tent Fire Safety / Template |
All tent(s) must conform to the Ontario Building Code and Ontario Fire Code requirements where the tents exceed 30 m2 or 320 ft2. Tent(s) are considered temporary building structures which shall meet the following requirements: If you are responsible for an event that is using a tent that requires a fire safety plan, please email the Kingsville Fire Department.

Fireworks |
Display firework events require the approval by the Council for the Corporation of the Town of Kingsville. Contact the municipal office at (519) 733-2305 to obtain information on how to seek Council approval.
The fireworks site and the type of fireworks used shall be approved by the Chief Fire Official.
Consumer fireworks may be set off within the Town of Kingsville only on the following dates; a) The 3rd Monday of the month May, being Victoria Day b) The 1st day of July, being Canada Day c) The 1st Monday of August, being the Civic Holiday d) The 1st Monday of September, being Labour Day e) The 31st of December, being New Year's Eve Day f) The date of any community functions approved by the Council for the Town of Kingsville |
