Municipal Information

Every dog owner within the Town of Kingsville must licence his or her dog and shall obtain a tag each year, or within seven days of becoming a new owner in accordance with By-law 103-2003. Tags may be obtained at the Municipal Office located at 2021 Division Road North.

Amendments to the Dog Owners' Liability Act ban the owning, breeding, transferring, importing or abandoning of Pit Bulls. Owners may be permitted to keep an existing Pit Bull subject to leashing, muzzling and sterilization restrictions that took effect on October 28th, 2005. *New changes to Dog Tag Registration: Please provide a copy of your dog's rabies vaccination along with your completed application to receive your 2018 dog tag. The Town collects this information to ensure all residents are safe if a dog is found at-large.

EVERY OWNER of a dog shall obtain a dog tag from the Town during normal business hours (8:30 am to 4:30 pm, Monday to Friday).

  • Up to March 31 MALE or FEMALE ..................................... $ 20.00
  • Sunday, April 1, until end of year MALE or FEMALE ....... $ 40.00
  • KENNEL LICENCE (includes one dog tag)........................... $ 110.00
  • Every owner shall securely fix a dog tag on their dog. The tag is to remain on the dog at all times during the year until you obtain a new tag for the following year. The Animal Control Officer will issue a Certificate of Offence if the owner does not have a current dog tag for their dog; if a dog tag is on a dog that the tag was not issued to; or if a dog tag was issued but not on the dog.
  • No person shall keep in any dwelling unit more than three dogs. This does not apply for a licensed kennel for boarding or breeding (under the Animal Pedigree Act) or to any person who keeps dogs under releasable age
  • No person shall permit a dog to be “at large” within the Town. A dog is “at large” if found in any place other than the premises of the owner or the place that it is habitually kept and not under the control of any person. This does not include when the dog is being used for hunting. The Animal Control Officer has authority to seize and impound every dog found to be running “at large”.
  • Each person who owns a dog shall remove the excrement left by such dog in any municipally-owned areas including parks, sidewalks & boulevards. This does not apply to blind people who are dependent on a guide dog or a white cane or handicapped people who are permanently confined to a wheel chair or restricted to permanent use of crutches/braces.
  • A dog shall not be a nuisance on the basis of odour, noise, uncleanliness, unruliness or destructive behaviour.

Your dog is dependent on you for its basic needs: food, shelter, care, exercise, and medical attention. It is your responsibility to ensure that your dog is properly identified through the Town’s Licensing with a dog tag, dog vaccination tags, and possibly through other means such as tattoos. If your dog is lost, the tag number and year may be identified through the Town Office or the Animal Control Officer.

Be a responsible dog owner.
